  Seminole State College, FL

Florida is in the midst of a construction boom. Recent statistics indicate that Florida leads the nation in the category of new construction jobs. Nationally, the construction sector is projected to add 790,000 jobs by 2024 (U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). In Florida the demand for single-family homes exceeds the supply. Commercial projects such as highway construction and commercial buildings are taking place across the state. Nationally, growth in this sector is expected as infrastructure projects are funded. The timing for workforce programs like TRAMCON is perfect.

Training in Manufactured Construction, TRAMCON, is a zero tuition, 4-year grant program focused on teaching basic construction skills. Funded as a round 4 TAACCCT grant, TRAMCON is preparing students to enter the workface quickly, in a high-demand sector, by earning nationally recognized and stackable credentials. The TRAMCON program offers four levels of preparation: Foundation, Basic, Advanced and Supervisory. Credentials available to be earned include Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) certification, National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) credentials in a variety of craft trades, and Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) credential in Certified Production Technician (CPT).

Program design and sustainability planning facilitates the engagement of a variety of partners. Grant partners include multiple colleges, a major university, construction contractors and sub-contractors, correctional facilities, state and local workforce advisory groups, local DOL offices and job developers, credentialing entities, media/marketing agencies, churches, and community based organizations. Additionally, each student becomes a unique partner with individual work and educational goals, which we are committed to help each attain. Effective short-term training is vital for keeping any local workface ready to work. TRAMCON model is an adaptable, replicable, and sustainable model for workforce education.
