   Nan Poppe, Ed.D.
   NCWE Consultant

Nan Poppe currently serves as a consultant specializing in workforce development, designing integrated career pathways and improving completion rates for all community college students.

Nan retired from Portland Community College in 2010 as Campus President. Previous to serving many years as Campus President she served in various roles including Dean of Adult and Continuing Education, Dean of Instruction, and District Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. After retiring from PCC, Nan worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to design their national Completion By Design Initiative. During the planning phase of the initiative (Year 1) she coordinated the technical assistance to the 21 participating colleges.

Nan’s entire career has been dedicated to enhancing program offerings specifically related to workforce education, and expanding academic opportunities for underserved students. She has been involved in the design and implementation of several model programs over the years, which have enriched the lives of thousands of students.

She currently serves as Louisiana’s coach for the national Accelerating Opportunity Initiative. She also serves as New Jersey, West Virginia and Wisconsin’s coach in the national Moving Pathways Forward Project. She also provides technical assistance to the Gulf Coast IT Consortium, a round 2 TAAACCT project in Mississippi and Louisiana. All three of these initiatives are using the evidence based I-Best model as a core strategy. Nan was a key player in developing and managing the national Breaking Through initiative. The initiative was a partnership between Jobs for the Future and NCWE that linked adult education and developmental education to career ladders to provide low skilled adults with post secondary opportunities leading to certificates and degrees.

Nan is a frequent speaker and a nationally recognized leader in the integrated career pathway movement.
