The LIFT the TriState program is a partnership between Gateway Community & Technical College, the Freestore Foodbank, and Belflex Staffing that offers an opportunity for unemployed and underemployed adults to become trained in the growing field of logistics while providing essential job skills. This ten-week job training program based in Northern Kentucky supplies hands-on training from experienced warehouse personnel at the Freestore Foodbank, specialized logistics coursework designed and delivered by Gateway Community and Technical College, and links participants to local employment through BelFlex Staffing Network and other program partners.

Participants receive training on campus at Gateway’s Transportation Technology Center every morning and travel to the Freestore Foodbank’s Northern Kentucky Distribution Center every afternoon for hands-on training. Training includes the MSSC Certified Logistics Associate (CLA), MSSC Certified Logistics Technician (CLT), Servsafe Food Handler Certificate, and powered equipment certifications in sit-down forklift, reach truck, cherry picker, and walkie picker. Additionally, students tour local distribution and logistics companies to gain exposure to careers in the field.

This program is free to participants who meet eligibility requirements. Additional costs covered for participants include transportation, clothing, and daily lunch. Graduates are guaranteed employment upon completion and receive college credit hours at Gateway for successful achievement of the CLA and CLT industry certifications.

Program funding was made possible through a combination of private and public dollars including a Work Ready Skills Initiative capital grant provided by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and contributions from private foundations.
