IMPLICIT BIAS
Description
The purpose of the Implicit Bias Training workshop is to introduce workforce professionals to a training platform for community and technical college leaders, faculty, administrators, deans and registered apprenticeship programs recently conducted in Washington State, a platform that can serve as a model for institutions nationally. The workshop will introduce the tools and processes used in the multi-day institutes. Attendees, working in groups, will participate in a Racial Impact Assessment exercise led by Dr. Cameron Wedding. The Racial Impact Assessment will explore discrepancies in the interpretation and application of policies, practices and laws at individual decision-points (agency, statewide, or county). This assignment will give workshop participants as a class, the opportunity to identify and discuss the racial impact of policies at key decision points and strategies that can reduce race and ethnic disparities. Attendees will receive a resource guide, and other materials to help inform work at their respective institutions.
