2019-20 New Workforce Professionals Academy Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the 2019-20 New Workforce Professionals Academy. The application is a two-step process with the college completing the College Nomination Form and the applicant submitting the online Candidate Application Form.

The Candidate Application Form includes inputting personal information (name, address, email, title, etc) as well as providing answers to seven (7) questions. Before completing the Candidate Application Form, you may want to think about the questions and put your answers into a Word document to then cut and paste your answers. Responses to each question are limited to 500 characters so be precise.


  • Applicant must be an NCWE member, work for an NCWE member two-year college, or work for an NCWE member two-year system office
  • Applicant must be employed in a position that supports workforce education or career and technical education
  • Applicant must be in their current position less than three years or have recently been assigned additional responsibilities to their current position


  • Complete the College Nomination Form to include 3-5 bullet points as to why the college is nominating the individual for participation in the Academy
  • Pay $1500 in tuition
  • Commit to its employee participating in all the required Academy activities
  • Cover travel costs for the participant to the NCWE conference and the two site visits
  • Ensure that the participant has time to learn and engage with his/her mentor throughout the year


  • Participants will attend a one-day workshop prior to the NCWE Annual Conference, attend the conference, and attend a half-day workshop the day after the conference
  • Participants will attend two (2) site visits to colleges doing exceptional workforce education and training. The dates and locations will be determined by NCWE, and announced no later than November 30, 2019
  • Participants will be assigned a mentor from the NCWE Board of Directors and will participate in calls and discussions with their mentor
  • After each activity, participants will write a short reflective evaluation identifying what they learned and how they will take it back to their current work

Applicants will be selected based on:

  • Meeting the criteria for selection
  • The quality of their answers to their online application form
  • Supervisor or college nomination

Two application forms must be submitted.

  1. The college must submit the College Nomination Form which includes 3-5 bullet points as to why the college is nominating the individual for participation in the Academy. The college application form must be completed by Friday June 14, 2019. Directions for submission are contained in the document.

  2. The candidate must complete the online Candidate Application Form. Click on the link below to complete and submit the online application.
  3. The online application process also includes the submission of a current curriculum vitae (CV). Candidates must submit their curriculum (CV) or resume in .PDF format!

  1. How long have you been in your current position?
  2. What was your previous position title and who did you work for (college or organization)?
  3. Why are you interested in the New Workforce Professionals Academy?
  4. What are your expectations of the Academy? What outcomes would you personally like to achieve?
  5. How would the required Academy activities help you gear up quickly in your position to achieve success as a workforce professional?
  6. Please write a brief description of a challenge that you have faced in your current position. How did you resolve the challenge?
  7. What is your long-term professional goal?
