Rebecca Nickoli currently serves as Coordinator for the work of the Community College Workforce Consortium based at Macomb Community College in Michigan. She was most recently Vice President for the Corporate College and Grants Administration for the statewide Ivy Tech Community College system in Indiana. Nickoli worked for Ivy Tech for 35 years and held various positions in Student Affairs at the Richmond campus. Nickoli was head of the Ivy Tech Logansport campus from 1992-1995 before coming to the system office in October 1995.

While at the College’s system office, she led efforts in the development of faculty policy including the move to a system of faculty rank and promotion; development of the College’s libraries; assessment of student learning; and system-wide development of the College’s distance learning efforts. In addition, Nickoli coordinated the past two ten-year system-wide accreditation self-studies for continuing accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission.

Nickoli is a consultant-evaluator and team chair for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the Institutional Actions Council. She is a past-president for the National Council of Workforce Education, served in 2012-13 on AACC’s Workforce and Economic Development Commission, and was a member of the Indiana State Workforce Investment Council. In addition, she formerly chaired the Joyce Foundation’s “Shifting Gears in Indiana” initiative. Nickoli remains involved in the Indiana “Skills2Compete” program which identifies and promotes middle-skills jobs in Indiana.

While at Ivy Tech Community College, Nickoli led a system-wide effort to develop and implement a comprehensive PLA plan at Ivy Tech. As part of that plan, she facilitated the development of a “Certification and Training Crosswalk” that allows for the consistent assignment of college credit across all relevant discipline areas as reflected by the documentation of learning via third-party, national recognized credentials and other widely-recognized corporate training/learning experiences. As part of the implementation, policies were also developed to account for the more bureaucratic processes associated with PLA such as how to code and track PLA credits, along with forms and processes to allow the documentation and approval of the learning experiences on transcripts. Ivy Tech’s Certification Crosswalk has been widely recognized as a national model for the comprehensive movement of credentials into credit programs. Nickoli has participated in training with the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) on prior learning assessment. In May 2014, she participated in CAEL’s consultant training.

She holds an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instructional Planning from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She is a frequent speaker and subject matter expert on workforce development and prior learning assessment.
