The Challenges of Workforce Education for All in a Diverse Society
Irene Trowell-Harris, RN, Ed.D.
Dr. Irene Trowell-Harris will focus her keynote remarks on challenges in developing and educating a diverse workforce for all facets of the American society; discuss how to be more inclusive of military servicemembers and veterans, tips on translating military skills to the civilian workforce, increasing collaboration with Departments of Defense, Labor, Veterans Affairs and Veterans Service Organizations, dealing with different populations related to culture, language and customs, and some strategies that NCWE workforce professionals can employ to ensure a diverse and trained workforce.

This session will provide participants with updates on key developments in federal workforce education policy in Washington, including where things stand with the Fiscal Year 2016 budget and appropriations process as well as key legislation that impacts the workforce education field such the Higher Education Act and the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. Also covered will be a status update on WIOA implementation from a federal perspective with a discussion on how workforce professionals can communicate effectively with policymakers in Washington.
