The theme is: “Rebuilding the American Dream”
Presentation proposals on the following topics are encouraged, but other areas relevant for workforce education professionals will also be welcomed:
- Helping America Recover-The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has included $4B in funds specifically for training and education via WIA initiatives. Program proposals should focus on short-term education and training initiatives that support WIA and can be models for other colleges to develop to support ARRA.
- Basic Skills- proposed presentations in this strand should relate to (a) VESL and VABE programs where basic skills instruction (ESL, ABE, GED, etc) is integrated with training for entry level workforce knowledge, skills, and abilities (b) enhanced students support services for VESL and VABE, (c) curriculum design examples, (c) methods of instructional delivery and accountability, (d) new ways of combining services to help families become financially secure and successful, (e) data tracking methods and processes
- Going Green – Energy Programs- Curriculum integrations. College sustainability initiatives including partnerships with community, workforce development and/or economic development agencies. Development of partnerships and program opportunities with industry associations, workforce investment boards and economic development agencies. Integration of Green/LEED concepts in related workforce and occupational programs (i.e. construction, HVAC, business, etc). Programs that address renewable energy, solar, wind, photovoltaic technology as well as the five key LEED performance areas.
- Partnerships and Pathways-Proposals should focus on workforce programs for Middle-Skill Jobs. These programs were either developed in partnership with business and industry or as part of a sector initiative. They should also be workforce programs which create new and flexible career pathways. Skills2Compete Campaign initiatives are encouraged.
All presenters accepted must register for the entire conference. There are no exceptions to this policy.
